Course Description

The KDSS Outdoor Education Program offers students a Physical Education credit (PAD 3O) and includes two field trips. Students must successfully complete a swimming program at the Davidson Centre to participate in the water based field trips. Students will also be trained in wilderness first aid practices.

Field Trips

Bluewater Outdoor Education Centre trip in early June is a one day trip to prepare students in canoeing for the long trip into Algonquin. This trips is a requirement of attending the longer trip to Algonquin.

Algonquin Canoe Trip (Mid Jume, Dates TBA)

This is a five day canoe trip into the back country of Algonquin Park. The bulk of the course is setup to prepare the students for the Algonquin Canoe Trip.

Hiking
Snowshoeing
Canoeing
Swimming
Camping Skills
Camp Cooking
Knots and Tarps
Wilderness Survival Skills
Wilderness Communications
Mountain Biking

Course Fees
All field trips must be covered by the fees collected and fund raising.~ Field trip fees are listed below.

Swimming Program $30
OEC Field Trip $50 (This trip May be altered to a one night Saugeen river trip)
Algonquin Canoe Trip $300

Fundraising
As a class along with the guidance of your teacher we will complete a variety of fundraising activites. In the past the class has sold New Orleans Pizza Cards, done a Boston Pizza fund raiser evening and other smaller events to raise money for the trips. No Student shall be prohibited from participating in any of the activities or trips in this course due to financial reasons.
